European Parliamentary Forum on population and development Most important findings • Is abortion a woman’s right? • 37 out of 88 parties explicitly say so • Mainly Soc/Lib/Left – but also EPP from DK, SE & FR • Is there consensus on approach to abortion? • Yes on liberal approach: DK, NL, SE, B • Most divided in: IE, PL, UK, EP • 26 parties say more is needed to reduce abortion • 48 have party position on abortion (+7 on free vote)

Sexual Orientation – Main Findings European Parliamentary Forum on population and development • 33 out of 88 parties call for, ‘marriage with adoption’ • Parties calling for this in all 14 countries analysed – except Poland and Austria • Consensus of all parties (except extreme right) for maintaining “high level of rights” where they exist: B, DK, NL, SE & UK • Possibility forward in: FR, IE, P & SE • No parties calling for less rights except: far right & some in Poland

European Parliamentary Forum Concluding Remarks on population and development • We are faced with a changing political landscape that is likely to see centre-right dominance. • Window of opportunity for a stronger and more ambitious consensus on SRHR still existing but narrowing • Urgent need to better engage progressive centre-right parliamentarians • Need for tailor-made advocacy messages and strategies
