  2. About ME… I am originally from Puerto Rico. My dad served in the U.S. Army so we moved A LOT! I have lived in many states and then I have also lived and visited many countries abroad. I have 2 sisters, one lives in Brainerd, and my other sister lives in Wichita, Kansas. I am the middle child. I live in Brainerd but will be moving to Pillager shortly as we are finishing building our home. I have 4 children, Raymond is the oldest, he is in 11th grade, Joseph is in 4th grade, Anthony is in 2nd grade, and Isabella is 3 years old. We also have a lab named Lady. In my free time I love to spend time with my family, camping, biking, swimming, etc. I especially love to travel to different places (not cold ones) and learn about different cultures.

  3. Where did I go to school? Like I had mentioned before, we moved a lot and I am so thankful for seeing all the places I had the pleasure of living in and visiting. I graduated H.S. from Leavenworth, Kansas. I began going to college at Kansas State University and later transferred to St. Cloud State University. I earned my Bachelor’s degree and several years later I returned to school to get my Master’s degree from Southwest Minnesota State University. I love going to school and it truly has nothing to do with being a teacher. I just love to learn!

  4. Course Description • A year-long Course • Language for Communication • Historical, Geographical, and Contemporary Awareness • Benefits of Completing the course with a “C” or better

  5. Goals • Communication in a language other than English • Knowledge and understanding of other cultures • Develop insight into the nature of the language and culture

  6. Supplies PLEASE HAVE A SEPARATE 1 SUBJECT NOTEBOOK FOR ALL BELL RINGERS!

Topics we will be covering • Unit 4 Chapter 1:A visitar a mi prima. • Unit 4 Chapter 2: En el mercado. • Unit 4 Chapter 3: Que hacer en Oaxaca? • Unit 5 Chapter 1: Como es tu rutina? • Unit 5 Chapter 2:Que debo hacer? • Unit 5 Chapter 3: Que buena celebracion! • Unit 6 Chapter 1:La vida de la ciudad. • Unit 6 Chapter 2: A conocer el campo. • Unit 6 Chapter 3: A ganar el concurso. • (If time permits we will be doing Unit 1 from the En Espanol2 textbook.)

  8. Assessment You will be graded on bell ringers, classwork, homework, quizzes, tests, listening activities, reading and speaking assignments, and projects. Please remember that homework is due the following day. You should be prepared when you come to class! If you turn in late assignments you will receive a “TARDE” stamp which means “LATE” in Spanish. These assignments will earn no more than 50% of the points possible.

Grading Unlike previous years, grades will be calculated using the following weights: Tests and Quizzes (including Sem. 1 and 2 projects)....….30% Quizzes ……………………………………………..…………..20% Homework ……………………...………………………………20% Projects………………………………………………………….20% Participation (includes listening and speaking activities and daily bell ringers)………………………………..………….…10% Total Points……………………………………..…………….100% Any assignments, tests, or quizzes MUST be made up on time per the Student Handbook. All times must be prearranged with Ms. Rivera.

  10. Grade Scale A 93-100 A- 90-92 B+ 87-89 B 83-86 B- 80-82 C+ 77-79 C 73-76 C- 70-72 D+ 67-69 D 63-66 D- 60-62 F anything below a 60%

  11. Helpful Websites • Rivera’s webpage on the Pillager Website *Although this is a great site with many resources, I will not accept any work that has been translated by the internet. An occasional word is very different to an entire assignment. You will receive a zero if online translators are being used to complete assignments. *Plagiarism will not be tolerated. All sources must be cited!
