  7. What is B.Y.O.T.? • B.Y.O.T. – Bring Your Own Technology • B.Y.O.D. – Bring Your Own Device • The policy of permitting students to bring their own electronic devices into the school setting, and use of those devices to access instructional materials, at teacher discretion.

  8. How Does B.Y.O.T. Work at Blackhawk? • Technology supplements instruction • B.Y.O.T. supplements district owned technology • Specific locations: Tech-Zones vs. Tech-Free Zones • Teacher discretion – the driving force of B.Y.O.T. • Students & parents sign off agreeing to all terms, procedures, rules, & regulations • Students submit their device’s info (serial #, etc.)

  9. Why was B.Y.O.T. a Good Option for Blackhawk? • Technology is the language that students speak • Students use devices that they are familiar with • Expose students to technology more often • Not about finding info – but rather, using that info • Cost saving initiative: technology is EXPENSIVE

  10. How was B.Y.O.T. Rolled Out at Blackhawk? Back in 2012-2013… • Step 1: Round table discussions (What is B.Y.O.T.?) • Step 2: Round table discussion (Pros & Cons) • Step 3: Group leaders report back to Admin. • Step 4: Policy, procedures, consequences were written by admin. & small group of teachers • Step 5: All teachers had opportunity to review and suggest revisions/additions to B.Y.O.T. plan

Rolled Out at Blackhawk? • Step 6: B.Y.O.T. plan presented to School Board for approval Then in 2013… • Step 7: B.Y.O.T. plan unveiled to parents at building- wide meetings and via newsletter • Step 8: Continual B.Y.O.T. round table discussions & planning sessions provided to teachers • Step 9: Creation of B.Y.O.T. App page on school website • Step 10: B.Y.O.T. Scavenger Hunt
