  6. What Is LEAP? Latitude Employee Assistance Program (LEAP) is: ...an employee benefit which provides confidential counseling and or consultation for a variety of issues that may cause you concern.

  7. Eligibility Who is eligible to use the program? • You • Your spouse • Your benefit eligible dependents

  8. Confidentiality Participation in LEAP is confidential, except when release of information is mandated by ethical practice and applicable state or federal law. These situations include: • If a caller reports to us any knowledge or suspicion of child or elder abuse or neglect • If a caller threatens to harm him or herself or others • When an employee signs a Release of Information

  9. How Much Does It Cost to Use LEAP? • LEAP is free of charge to members. • There is no out of pocket expense. • Up to (5) sessions per fiscal year per issue (i.e., stress, relationship, legal, mental health, grief, etc.)

  10. Common Reasons to Use LEAP • Stress/Anxiety • Financial/Legal Concerns • Managing Change & Transition • Drug/Alcohol • Work Related Concerns • Family/Relationship Issues • Grief • Depression • Parenting Issues • Child/Eldercare Issues • Management or Supervisory Issues • Any other reason

  11. Who Are the Counselors & What Are Their Credentials? • Masters or PhD level clinicians • Social Workers • Psychologists • Marriage and Family Therapists • Clinical Professional Counselors • Minimum of three to five years of experience • Licensed by the state to practice

Other LEAP Consultation & Referral Services • Legal • Free (up to 30 minutes) legal consultation with a local attorney who has an expertise in your matter • 25% reduction in fees if you choose to retain the attorney • Financial • Free (up to 30 minutes) financial consultation with qualified consultant • Telephone resources available to assist with financial concerns • Referral to local resources if necessary • Adult/Elder Care • Help finding resources for adult relatives with needs (i.e., aging, nursing homes) • Child Care • Help finding childcare services for children

Legal Consultation & Referral Services • Complexities surrounding marriage, custody and child support issues, elder care, financial, credit and tax related issues can add stress in the lives of employees and their family members. • The American Bar Association reports that during a 12-month period, over half the employees in a typical workforce will experience a legal or financial issue involving “life-events” such as marriage, birth, illness, renting an apartment, purchasing a home, or experiencing credit issues. • Almost one half of the employees who do take unscheduled time off of work do so to deal with legal or legal-related problems. • Approximately 70% of the population does not seek legal consultation due to fear of cost.

  14. Financial Consultation & Referral Services • Financial burdens can add stress to the lives of employees and their dependents. The Financial Services component of LEAP offers additional support by providing access to financial consultants with a broad range of experience. • This service allows employees and their dependents to determine the most appropriate way to manage their financial situation.

  15. Common Legal and Financial Issues Free (up to 30 minutes) consultation with an experienced, licensed attorney in your area to assist you or your family member with a legal issue. Common issues include but are not limited to: • Divorce • Custody and Visitation • Estate Planning • Bankruptcy • Traffic Violations • Wills and Probate • Retirement Planning • Eldercare Obligations • Adoption • Child Support • Family Budgeting • Guardianship • Tax Planning • Consumer Complaints

  16. Child & Eldercare Services • Telephonic Access to a Child/Eldercare Consultant • Intake Through Web or Child/Eldercare Consultant • Receive three to five resources and a Personalized Information Packet • Fastest Response/Fulfillment Time in the Industry – 12 business hours • Follow-Up

  22. LEAP Can Help • Early intervention with LEAP can minimize problems and maximize the probability of a positive outcome • Takes you out of the caretaking role – you don’t have to be the counselor • Note that approximately 97% of EAP users are self referred

How Do We Talk About LEAP? • Explain how seeking services will help the employee, their family and family members by explaining the impact of their personal problems. • Seeking help will reduce management involvement. • Concern from managers is powerful. • Praise people who get help. • Show genuine concern for an employee’s well-being. • Use positive examples: “I suggested other employees to use the program and I know it helped him/her.”

  24. Tips for Success • Consult by calling LEAP at: 800-713-6288. • Listen and show concern, but do not get stuck in personal issues. • Be specific; do not generalize. • Do not moralize or make value judgments. • Endorse LEAP. • Do not discuss with any other members. Emphasize privacy and HIPAA.

On Site Critical Event Response Services • APS maintains an international network of critical incident response specialists available to assist when needed. • We have provided on site support in relation to a variety of critical events including fatalities, accidents, severe weather, reduction in work force announcements and any other event that is traumatic to the workforce.
