  4. Community Outreach: Project Objective Needs Assessment: • PMI Buffalo members expressed a desire to get involved in the community • Nonprofit organizations wanted to learn how to manage projects more efficiently Proposed solution: To engage in a project to create an ongoing program to bring project management knowledge to WNY nonprofits

Program Strategic Goals • Increase visibility of PMI Buffalo and the project management profession • Develop a relationship with WNY nonprofit organizations • Cultivate a community appreciation for project management best practices • Identify potential new members • Provide opportunities for chapter members to use their skills in a volunteer setting and earn PDUs • Win a national PMI Component award for 2010

  7. Program Components • Train • Nonprofit • PM • Mentor • Toolbox

  8. Training Component • Nonprofits apply for training program and are selected to participate – low or no cost • Training by Mingus Associates Inc (MAI) • Project Management curriculum: 6 half-day sessions over 2-3 months • Half day Orientation Training for Mentors

  9. Mentoring Component • Nonprofit participants are assigned a mentor while in training • PMP Mentors matched with organizations • Mentoring guidance provided for a specific project 3-6 months in duration • Mentors provide advisement for at least an hour each week.

  10. Toolbox Component • Create a set of electronic templates suitable for nonprofit organizations

Program Scope Exclusions Managing projects for nonprofits – “doing” vs “mentoring” Custom training programs for a single nonprofit Consulting efforts that members typically offer for hire or conflicting with PMI offerings Organizations that are not a recognized charitable organization (501(c)(3) status)

Admin • Duties • Develop and document all program policies • Create all forms and eval surveys • Recruit and manage mentors • Assist with Project Management • Next steps (by 1st week January): • Develop mentor and nonprofit application forms • Develop program guidelines for organizations • Develop guidelines for mentors

  17. Marketing • Develop promotional brochure / ppt • Determine “Value Proposition” for potential participating organizations • All program promotion • Next steps (by 1st week in January): • Develop all sales materials
