  3. Established by the Research Council in 1958 • A private foundation since 1986 • A staff of 226, of whom 122 are research scientists • Competes in the open national and international markets • Approximately 20% of our activities are conducted in international projects

  4. NIVA’s qualities From the mountains to the fjords and the ocean– NIVA’s knowledge of freshwater and marine ecosystems gives us a holistic perspective on aquatic ecosystems.

  5. Experience from more than 70 countries

  6. Basic funding NIVA receives an annual basic funding from the Research Council of Norway. The basic funding, 12% of total turnover, is intended for: specific research tasks to ensure competence in line with NIVA strategy
