Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Overall Objectives: • Industry promoton and competitive power enhancement of Bulgarian business • SME’s development stimulating, innovation policy activating • Corrupcy failure best conditions via Internet access to Industrial Property (IP) Rights information for customs, courts, police etc.

  4. Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Background: • BPO protects IP rights - patents, trademarks, industrial designs, new plant varieties and animal breeds • BPO publishes Official Bulletin for all IP rights, maintains patent collections, carries out international exchange of IP rights information • BPO supports databases for IP rights • BPO provides public and State institution services and IP rights information • BPO represents Bulgaria as a member state of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Patent collections supported by BPO consist of: • - Over 19 000 000 patent specifications on paper from 25 countries and 2 international organizations • - Over 9 000 000 patent specifications on CD-ROM from 31 countries and 2 international organizations

  6. Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Problems: • Electronical IP databases technical unfitness for Internet incorporation. • Electronical IP databases diversity • Electronic IP databases platforms incompatibility (Informix, Oracle)

Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Expected Results: • Intellectual Property Digital Libraries (IPDL) implementation • IPDL Internet incorporation • Limited access to valuable IP rights information overcome for economic competitive policy • Fast and secure access throughout state-of-the-art technical means to important information for R & D and innovation activities in Universities and scientific institutes • Harmonization to global trends in international exchange in IP rights area
