  5. Creed • Recognize and reconcile needs • Promote balance between natural and man-made • Preserve present and future values

  6. Definition Ethics: • Discipline: good and bad & moral duty and obligation • A set of moral principles or values • A theory or system of moral values • The principles of conduct governing an individual or a group

  7. Definition Ethical: • Of or relating to ethics • Conforming to accepted especially professional standards of conduct Synonym: see Moral

  8. Definition Moral: • Principles of right and wrong • Right behavior • One’s conscience • Right and wrong action

  9. Ethics I will: • Be responsible for data validity • Encourage research, planning, design, management and review • Examine all potential conflicts of interest

  10. Ethics I will not: • Condone misrepresentation of work • Engage in dishonest or discriminatory conduct • Accept contingent fees

  11. Guidance for Practice I will: • Encourage early environmental planning • Recognize total environmental management • Incorporate best principles and practices

  12. Guidance for Practice I will: • Conduct work areas for which I am qualified • Encourage and recognize professional participation • Utilize interdisciplinary teams • Seek and respect communication

  13. Guidance for Practice I will: • Be consistent with governing laws etc. • Encourage early and open public participation • Ensure technical and economic feasibility

  14. Professional Development I will: • Assist in maintaining integrity and competence • Encourage education and R&D

  15. Professional Development I will not: • Lobby in the name of NAEP • Advertise in a manner to discredit the profession
