  1. Joints are like connecting junctions of the skeleton which bind all different sets of bones to enable simultaneous motions. These different sets of bone joints are mainly classified based on their structure and range of motion in three fundamental categories: • Fibrous (Immovable) Joints allow no movement as they have no joint cavity and are held together structurally by thick fibrous connective tissue such as the forearm bones. • Cartilaginous (Slightly Movable) Joints are connected via cartilage tissues and permit limited movement. Spinal vertebras have such joints that form the spinal cord. • Synovial (Freely Movable) Joints allow flexible movements as the bones are connected via a fluid-filled cavity. Wrist, elbow, knees, shoulders, and hip joints are synovial.

  2. However, these joints, like every other organic body part, undergo gradual wear and tear as you age and lead to different aching and mobility issues. They become vulnerable to various aggravations such as fractures, rheumatism, dislocation, and deterioration in scale and strength. Causes Of Joint Pain Arthritis: Arthritis is an umbrella term for around 200 joint issues which affect the joint bones leading to joint inflammation. The most commonly occurring type of arthritis in cartilaginous and synovial joints is osteoarthritis, where the cushioning cartilage in the joint cavity wears down or is damaged, causing intense inflammation and aching.

  3. Medical Conditions Joint pain can also be triggered due to several medical conditions which directly or indirectly affect the joints. Some of these medical conditions include: • Adult Still’s disease • Avascular necrosis (death of bone tissue due to limited blood flow) • Bone cancer • Gout (arthritis related to excess uric acid) • Sarcoidosis (collections of inflammatory cells in the body) • Complex regional pain syndrome (chronic pain due to a dysfunctional nervous system) • Rickets (a lack of vitamin D, calcium, or phosphate)

  4. Physical Trauma Traumatic accidents can significantly damage the tissues and ligaments which hold the joints together and cause severe pain. Such joint trauma commonly occurs during: • Automobile crashes • Sports activities • Regressive workouts • Falling or fainting accidents Treatment of Joint Pain Depending on the severity of the pain, joints can be treated through home remedies, physical therapy, medications or surgical options.

  5. Home Remedies If the pain is tolerable and does not affect your daily activities significantly, such joints can be treated by: • Regularly exercising and maintaining proper body weight • Using hot and cold packs • Regularly massaging the joints • Maintaining a diet which contains enough calcium and omega-3 fatty acids • Taking physical therapy from a professional physiotherapist Medication If the pain has grown moderately severe and has started affecting your routine activities, you might require medical assistance to cure the pain.

  6. Surgical Options When the pain becomes intolerable and starts intruding the joint motion, surgical treatments may prove more effective than other non-surgical options. Some of the most commonly performed surgical treatments for joint pain involve: • Arthroscopy: A tiny tube called an endoscope is inserted into the joint to treat it. • Synovectomy: The membrane (synovium) that lines a joint is surgically removed or destroyed. • Osteotomy: One of the joint bone is cut to either shorten, lengthen or realign it. • Total Joint Replacement: The entire joint is replaced with a synthetic implant to regain mobility.

  7. Joint painis easily treatable at various orthopaedic centres with quite affordable treatment options.
