  1. Annapoorna Charitable Trust A glimpse

  2. New Beginnings Annapoorna Charitable trust, established in the year 2004, started working on its major important goal of establishing a home for the deprived children of the society. To fulfil this, “Balya” a free home for children was established in the year 2005.

  3. Balya Balya started functioning with the first two children Phalguni and Vaishaki in March 2005. This has blossomed into a home giving shelter, hygienic food, clothing, education and other opportunities for learning activities like music, dance etc to about 55 deprived children by year 2011.

  4. Registrations and approvals • The trust got registered under Section 12AA(a) of the Income tax act 1961 and also got approval from Children Welfare Committee, Government of Karnataka for running this Home. • Subsequently the Trust also got exemption under section 80G(5)(VI) of Indian income tax act 1961 for donations made to this Trust. • The Trust also got the approval from ministry of Home, Government of India under Foreign Currency Regulation Act (FCRA).

  5. BALYA HOME

  6. Balya children are provided with healthy food, shelter and clothing. The resident children of Balya are admitted to schools both in Kannada medium and English medium based on the educational background of the child.

  7. In the academic year 2010-11, 32 children were attending Kannada medium education in National School in Basavangudi, Bangalore. Eighteen children were attending Saroja Memorial English School in Ullal main road.

  8. Children are provided with transport for commuting between home and school by the trust management.

  9. Fulfilling another primary goal… “To start and run educational institutions for helping the poor and deprived.”

  10. To go forward, the Trust approached Government of Karnataka for permission to establish a school from class 1 to 5 initially to start with. • The Trust got the required approval for establishing the school within the premises of Balya • Trust has started working on establishing school and successfully launched Balya Vidya Mandir from 1st June 2011 in the second floor area of Balya resident home.

  11. Required teaching staff has been brought on board. • Classes started functioning in all seriousness following prescribed syllabus of the government. • Resident children in Kannada medium have now all been shifted to this school. • In addition, poor and deprived children living in the vicinity of the school and have no means to attend the school have been brought and admitted to this school. • These children are provided with required text books, stationary, uniform and midday meals free. Trust wishes to admit more such children in the next academic year.

  12. Other activities The resident children of Balya are imparted special training every Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM. During this period, children are taught yoga, music, story-telling, and other such activities.

  13. Children are also taken for outing to nearby parks or tourist areas on a periodical basis. This gives children an opportunity to get exposed to the outside world.

  14. Trust conducted a Summer Camp from 22nd April to 15th May 2011. During this period children were given training in craft work & other such activities. These three weeks of summer camp gave the children quality time and added value to their personality. Children enjoyed this period very well. Summer Camp

  15. Proposal • Trust decided to construct a building for running the school. • To fulfil this aim, Trust purchased a small piece of land of about 880Sq ft near Balya campus. • Many well wishers helped in pooling the amount of Rs.5,80,000/- required for purchase of this land.

  16. Immediate Goal Now Trust started construction of the first phase ---first two floors of the building covering four class rooms per floor was started with financial help from well wishers in the month of November 2011. .

  19. Phase-1 of School Building is now fully ready • Balya Vidya Mandir building completed and is functional now. • Classes are going on a regular basis in this building from 1st August 2012.

  20. Looking for support • Phase 1 of the School building covering ground and first floors was completed at a cost of Rs. 23,00,000/- including the cost of land. • Construction of Phase II of the building covering the 2nd and 3rd floors has now been started in February 2013 and is expected to be completed by June 2013. • It is estimated to cost about Rs16,00,000/- for this phase. • Many well-wishers have come forward with financial support and we look forward to more such donors to complete this Phase II work.
