  1. RTI Response To Intervention Hickman County Schools Serving Grades K - 5

  2. Our Mission The Response to Intervention (RTI) Program is committed to reaching all students who require additional interventions to reach their highest level of literacy possible in a timely and efficient manner.

  3. Our school district, in compliance with No Child Left Behind and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, commits to developing a response to intervention plan that best serves our students, as well as, provide equal education opportunities for students as required by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504).

  4. Introduction RTI is an assessment and intervention process for monitoring student progress and identifying students who may be at risk for academic failure. The goal of RTI is to improve reading levels of struggling students early on in their educational journey. RTI addresses the prevention of reading difficulties using a series of effective classroom practices, progress monitoring, tiered instruction, and assessment.

  5. The Tiered Model

  6. The Tier Process A tier represents actions, not classifications of students. The degree of interventions a student receives is determined by the tier. In Tier 1, the focus is on good instruction provided by highly-qualified teachers, progress monitoring, and regular assessments to ensure the majority of students are progressing satisfactorily. All students in the regular education program receive Tier 1 instruction. Tier 2 includes more supplemental interventions in small group settings of no more than five students. Tier 3 students receive more intensive interventions in small groups of one to three students.

  7. Parent Support Parent support is a valuable part of the Response to Intervention (RTI) Program. The Intervention meetings are held every six to eight weeks to assess and analyze student data. The Intervention Team is made up of the school principal or assistant principal, RTI coordinator, Title teachers (if applicable), and classroom teachers. If and when a student is moved from Tier 1 to Tier 2 or to Tier 3, a letter is sent to notify parents of the changes in instruction and intervention. If parents have questions, they should kindly contact the school’s principal.
