Origins • It was written by the American classical music composer and teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941 • It was originally titled “Carol of the Drum” and was based on a traditional Czech carol. • It was recorded multiple times by different artists until Harry Simeone released it under the name “The Little Drummer Boy”

  3. Religious Significance • The lyrics are about a young boy who was summoned by the Magi to the Nativity. The boy had no gift for Jesus, so he played a song for Him with his drum • The lyrics that mention it are “I played my best for him” and “He smiled at me”

  4. Relation to Church History • It is connected to Church History by the Nativity story • The Nativity is a big part of Church History because it is the birth of Jesus • The Magi are also a part of the Nativity story • They called the Little Drummer Boy to Jesus as the Church does
