  1. Ketogenic Diet: Eat Fat to Lose Fat A diet that is low in carbohydrates is called as ketogenic or keto diet. By cutting on the carbohydrates and increasing the fat intake body starts producing ketones in the liver to be used as energy instead of glucose. Why cut on the carbohydrates? When you are consuming a high carb diet your body produces glucose and insulin to process the glucose in the bloodstream. Since the glucose is being used as a primary source of energy, your body doesn’t utilize the fat and stores it, resulting in an increased body fat percentage. But if the diet is low in carbs, the body is forced into a state called ‘ketosis’, where the production of glucose is replaced by the production of ketones as an energy source. What is ketosis? Ketosis is a natural process that body initiates when the diet is low in carbs but high in fats, during this state body produces ketones by breaking down of fats in the liver. The end goal of a ketogenic diet is to force your body to adapt to this metabolic state. But isn’t fat bad? Contrary to a popular belief that ‘fat makes us fat’, new studies show that fat is not the problem for obesity. The diets high in processed sugars and carbohydrates increase glucose and insulin production which cause inflammation in the body. In contrast, a diet high in fat can help reduce inflammation. Benefits of the ketogenic diet: Once your body gets adapted to ketosis, you can enjoy the benefits that a ketogenic diet provides. Some of them are listed below: This diet can help with diabetes by lowering blood sugar levels. A renowned method used to shed extra weight The diet will improve your metabolic function. This diet is known to help athletes increase their endurance level. This diet slows down the growth of many types of tumors. Ketogenic is beneficial for reducing seizures.
