  1. Diversity in theClassroom By: Shannon Petry

  2. What is diversity? • As teachers we are finding that is more and more diversity in our classrooms. • We might hear or experience some trouble with diversity issues and educating students • So we are going to talk about some strategies and ideas you can use in the classroom

  3. According to Culturally Responsive Educational Systems: Education for All there are ten strategies to promote diversity in your classroom • Acknowledge students’ differences as well as their commonalities • Validate students’ cultural identity in classroom practices and instructional materials • Educate students about the diversity of the world around them • Promote equity and mutual respect among students • Assess students’ ability and achievement validly

  4. Continued • Foster a positive interrelationship among students, their families, the community, and school • Motivate students to become active participants in their learning • Encourage students to think critically • Challenge to strive for excellence as defined by their potential • Assist students inbecoming socially and politically conscious

  5. My thoughts about these strategies being used in the classroom • I think these strategies are very helpful and can provide a very enjoyable environment for students to learn. • Also with these strategies I think stereotypes will be forgotten and everyone will be treated as equals. • Last with these strategies I think students will have better grades and take more pride in their own work.
