  1. Undergraduate Research Opportunity The Medium Energy Physics group in the Physics Department at UNCW will offer scholarships to three undergraduate students working in nuclear and particle physics. The candidates will spend two summer months at Jefferson National Lab, Newport News, Virginia, to participate in the PRIMEX project. This is one of leading projects at the forefront of physics and is designed to perform precision measurements on the properties of light pseudoscalar meson particles using the Primakoff effect. The results of those experiments will provide important clues to our understanding of nature and the structure of the matter of which our universe and ourselves are composed. The candidates are expected to continue their research in the Physics Department through the academic school year. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to attend professional conferences to present their research results. Candidates should have a major in science and a GPA of at least 3.0. Qualified Candidates will be provided with a $1500/per month stipend plus lodging during the summer, and will be paid at the rate of $8/hour for their work during the academic year. For more information about the positions please contact Prof. Liping Gan. Applicants should send a statement of your interest, curriculum vitae and a copy of transcript to: Prof. Liping.
