  2. Nature of Work Pharmacists distribute medication from a prescription to individuals. They let the individuals know about dosage, interactions, and side effects from their medications. Pharmacists also do the actual mixing of ingredients to make the medication for patients. Most pharmacists work in a community setting such as a healthcare facility, hospital, or a drugstore. They advise patients about health topics, such as diet, exercise, and stress. Pharmacists work in a clean environment. They have to wear gloves and masks to protect themselves.

  3. Education or Training Pharmacists are required a license. To obtain a license, pharmacists must earn a Doctor of Pharmacy also known as a Pharm. D. That must be replaced by a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. For two years, pharmacy courses include mathematics and natural sciences, such as chemistry, biology, and physics; other than that, they must also have humanities and social sciences. They must have completed three or more years in a college or university before getting into a Pharm. D. program though.

  4. Job Outlook Pharmacists employment is expected to increase faster than average. It is expected to grow 17% between 2008 and 2018. More middle-aged and elderly people use more prescriptions, which lead to needing more pharmacists to help make the medications.

  5. Earnings In May 2008, the median annual wage was $106,410. The middle 50% earned between $92,670 and $121,310 a year. The highest 10% earned more than $131,440.
