  3. That being said… • Be cautiously optimistic • Think it through • It’s a journey • It’s a tool – it doesn’t replace you

  4. What can the students do with an iPad? Well, generally speaking, they can do… • Research • Books • Photos • Videos • Voice Recordings or Dictations • Compose Music • Drawings • Digital Storytelling • Apptivities • Centers (Part of a Rotation Activity) • Word Processing • Presentations • QR Codes • Control the Promethean Board

More specifically… • Roving Reporter – Write a Newspaper Article with a Picture • Write a script and direct a video • Pick a song from a playlist and write a a narrative essay inspired by the song • Outdoor picture scavenger hunt • Produce a podcast • Give tests via Blackboard • Flashcards • Conduct interviews • Download a video and let students watch • Digital show-and-tell • Create graphics organizers • QR code activity • Google Docs • Make comic strips • Make a demonstration video

Hints & Tips • Use Guided Access: • Settings • General • Accessibility • Guided Access (in the Learning Section) • Question the validity of your assignments • Have clear expectations • Remember - the Acceptable Usage Policy is on your side • Have something for them to work on immediately after the iPad assignment.

  7. Multitask! • Use it with your Promethean board • Walk around your classroom with it and control your computer with it. • Gather data/information about students. • Take pictures of student work or students at work.

Do make sure your students know the purpose of the iPad. • Do demo the apps for the students. • Do limit the number of apps you use. • Do think about how you are going to “take up” assignments. • Don’t use an iPad if you don’t have time to plan well. • Don’t use an iPad as a time filler. • Don’t assume your online textbooks will open on an iPad. • Don’t let the students make changes to the settings.
