  1. Chunks in Story RetellingTake Book 1 Unit 1 Friendship as an example 新课标人教版B1U1Friendship 华南师范大学外国语言文化学院 张凤 华南师范大学外国语言文化学院 林琳 河源市河源中学 黄李雅

  2. Step 1 Elements in Story Retelling Q: How can we retell a story well? Story Retelling What ? Who? Where? When? Why? How? 5W+ 1H

  3. Step 2 Discover the chunks in Anne’s letter I wonder if it’s because I haven’t been able to be outdoors for so long that I’ve grown so crazy about everything to do with nature. I can still well remember that there was a time when a deep blue sky, the songs of the bird, moonlight and flower could never have kept me spellbound. That’s changed since I came here. when, who, what, where, how, why 3.I can well remember that 1. I wonder if it's because 2.grown so crazy about 4.there was a time when 5.kept me spellbound

  4. Step 2 Discover the chunks in Anne’s letter For example, one evening when it was so warm, I stayed awakeon purpose until half past eleven in order to have a good look at the moon by myself. But as the moon gave far too much light, I didn’t dare open the window. Another time five month ago, I happened to be upstairs when at dusk when the window was open. I didn’t go downstairs until the window had to be shut. The dark, rainy evening, the wind, the thundering clouds held me entirely in their power; it was the first time in a year and a half that I‘d seen the night face to face. Sadly…I am only able to look at nature through dirty curtain before very dusty window. It’s no pleasure looking at nature through these any longer, because nature is one thing really must be experienced.

  5. Step 2 Discover the chunks in Anne’s letter 1. 1.I wonder if it's because... 2.grow crazy about... 3.I can well remember that... 4.there was a time when... 5.keep sb. spellbound 6.stay awake 7.on purpose 8.have a good look at... 9.happen to do 10.at dusk 11.it was the first time that sb had done... 12.face to face 13.it's no pleasure doing...

  6. Step 3 Retell Anne’s letter with the chunks above while retelling, pay attention to the four points: 1. In the third person: Anne, she. 2. In past tense: did, had done. 3. Paying attention to conjunctions. 4. In your own words as possible as you can.

  7. Para1: I wonder if it’s because—not—outdoors—grown so crazy about—nature there was a time when—a deep blue sky, the songs of the bird, moonlight and flower—never—kept me spellbound—change Para2: For example—evening—warm, stayed awake—in order to—have a good look at—moon—but—too much light—not—open the window Another—five months ago—happened to be—upstairs—at dusk—window—open—not—downstairs—until—window—shut The dark, rainy evening, the wind, the thundering clouds—it was the first time that—had seen—night—face to face Para3: Sadly—only—look at nature—through dirty curtain before very dusty window It’s no pleasure looking—nature—because—nature—one thing really must be experienced. 3minutes

  8. Step 4 One possible version Anne wondered if it’s because she can not go outside that she had grown so crazy about everything to do with nature. There was a time when a deep blue sky, the songs of the bird, moonlight and flower never kept her spellbound, but that changed.

  9. Step 4 One possible version For instance, on one warm evening, Anne stayed awakein order to have a good look at the moon, but the moon was so bright that she can not open the window. Another time is five months ago. At dusk, Anne happened to be upstairs with the window open so she wasn’t able to go downstairs until the window was shut. It was the first time that Anne had seen that night face to face that the dark, rainy evening, the wind, the thundering clouds had held her thoroughly.

  10. Step 4 One possible version Sadly, it’s no pleasure looking at nature only through dirty curtain before dusty window, because nature is one thing really must be experienced.
