  3. You Are The Future (URTF) • Charge from the Centennial Commission • Engage students in projects to realize the following aspects of the Centennial Vision • Increase public awareness of OT • Advocate more Mental Health • Linking Research, Education & Practice • Increase student diversity

  4. AOTA membership open to all academic programs both OT & OTA students Gold Membership increased by 65% in 2008 SilverMembership increased by 80% in 2008 Student Membership Circle

Evidence Based Practice • "We envision that occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforce meeting society's occupational needs." (AOTA,2006) • The Disconnect: Classroom vs. Clinic • Action: Develop a resource for fieldwork educators in clinical practice • Goal: Incorporate EBP into FW assignments for students

  6. Loan Forgiveness • Goal: create a central location where students can go to learn about various loan forgiveness programs • Links to various resources on AOTA website under “Students” tab

  7. Prospective Student Live Chats • Goal: provide a forum for prospective OT students to ask questions regarding OT profession, applying to school, fieldwork, etc • Once a month for 1 hour • Students can call in or sign into online chatroom • Chats are recorded and available as podcasts through AOTA website • 2 student representatives and 1 AOTA staff representative are on the call to field questions

  8. Ask a Student • Through the AOTA website, prospective students can email questions about educational programs, practice areas, etc. • Steering Committee members reply with student perspective answers. • Email address is: askastudent@aota.org

  9. Encourage Student Involvementwith AOTPAC • AOTPAC Student Challenge • Capital Hill Day • Student Advocacy for OT • Educate students about AOTPAC • Active as Advocates (AaA) program

AOTPAC Student Challenge • Challenge initiated in 2003 by University of New Mexico • Annual Student Challenge increasing success year after year! • Collectively schools have donated $1000s of dollars to AOTPAC!!!! • Encourage your school and classmates to fundraise and join in on the Challenge!!!

  11. Active as Advocates • AaA was created to provide mentors for students interested in advocating for OT in various political arenas • AaA allows students to partner with active professional advocates across the U.S. in hopes to create OT advocates for the future
