  1. NTUA in INTUIT : Areas of Interest, Role and Potential Contribution J.Soldatos National Technical University of Athens Contact e-mail: jsoldat@telecom.ntua.gr

  2. Outline • NTUA Research Interst in INTUIT : • Multihoming Solution • DNS discovery • Migration Secnarios • NTUA Expertise: • Embedded systems software programming (including RGs) • Internet architecture specification / Network Modeling • Wireless LAN (IEEE802.11), Bluetooth, HiperLan2

  3. Multihoming (1) – Architecture & Specification • Leverage / Extend IETF work (Host & Site Multihoming): • Site exit issues - Source Address dependent routing • Mobile IPv6 based solutions  aggregate & per flow interface selection • Multihoming with Route Aggregation (Multiple ISPs) / RFC2260 • Combination of route renumbering with mobility mechanisms (e.g., for preserving connections on failures) • Scalabiliy concerns (minimum DFZ entries/advertisements) • Specify necessary agreements, SLAs between SPs for site MH

  4. Multihoming (2) - Demonstration • Scenarios: • Fault Resilience – Redundant Connections • Load Balancing – Traffic Enginering • Service Value – Tarifing • Terminal configuration – source address selection  Terminal Agent / Proxy (e.g., in PCs but also in wireless terminals using the NOKIA J2ME toolkit)

  5. DNS Discovery & Configuration • Solutions (simple to more sophisticated): • Well known unicast address (may be useful for a 1st phase demonstrator) • DNS server in RGs  quite costly option • More sophisticated Discovery : DHCP6 • Private vs. Public Domain name • Global DNS service provision  Implications at the ISP side • Directory issues use of FQDN  host communication & mobility

  6. Home Networking Migration Scenarios • Study IPv4/IPv6 migration home networking: • NAT, IPv4 tunnel to IPv6 Server  IPv6 connectivity over IPv4 • Study of DNS support (Gateway side, provider side) Hub Laptop (Dual Stack) WorkStation (Dual Stack) Residential Gateway (Programmable / Linux box) IPv6 Server Relay Router IPv4 SP IPv6 Network

  7. Relevant NTUA expertise • Embedded systems software: • Fault tolerant, QoS • Interworking Gateway (NETGATE) • Programming the RG (InAccessNetworks.com) • IP architecture / specification: • TEQUILA, AQUILLA • IPv6  ANDROID • Wireless Standards: • HIPERLAN2, UMTS, DVB-T (MONASIDRE) • UMTS, HIPERLAN2 (FITNESS)

  8. NTUA’s Role Summary • Areas of Interest (Multihoming, DNS discovery, Interworking & Migration Ipv4/IPv6) • Application Developer - Software • Depending on the specific areas that industrial partners require assistance • Architecture & Specification work • NTUA volunteers to contribute to the technical & non-technical writing of the proposal
