  4. Book Check-Out & Check-In • Class scheduled-once a week. • Books are checked back into the library after reading is completed. • An AR Quiz is taken after reading the library book.

  5. BOOKS

  6. CARE OF BOOKS • Special place to keep books in the classroom. • In the classroom, keep books away from food, water, and snacks. • Using a bookmark is important. • Don’t loan your book to a friend, not recommended by your librarian.

Accelerated Reader • Accelerated Reader is available for voluntary quiz taking in each CES classroom. Students are allowed to take quizzes on classroom computers for books they have read. • Teachers may read books aloud to the students; however, students must read and take the quiz independently. During quizzing, books may be used for title and author information only ~ not for finding the answers. • Student GOAL-To score 80% or Higher on each quiz taken.

How is AR used in the classroom? • Teachers set AR reading goals, depending upon grade level, per week, month or trimester • Each book has a point value depending on reading level and difficulty • Students must acquire a minimum number of book points or titles read per week, month or trimester

  12. AR Expected Results • Student receives immediate feedback • Teacher and student review the results • Based on results, teacher makes recommendations • Teachers assist students in maintaining a reading log on students’ reading progress

STAR Reading/STAR Early Literacy • A diagnostic reading test (STAR) to determine the students' reading comprehension levels.  Students will be tested at various times during the year to determine if their  levels are improving. This will normally be done at the beginning, middle and at the end of school.
