  1. Francis Drake Presented by:Chris Matthew,Colton Campbell,and Wes Brawley

  2. Early Life • Francis Drake was born in 1540 and died around 1596. • He was born in the town of Tavistock, England. • He is also the oldest out of eleven brothers. • His dad was also a sailor.

  3. Later on • When Francis was 18 he helped in ship trading in the Bay of Biscay. • When he was 23, Francis took some trips to Guinea in West Africa. • Also, he was bestowed captain of the Judith at age 24, but most of his ships were sunk by the Spanish.

  4. The Spanish Main • In 1570, Drake returned to get vengeance from the Spanish, and he was a hated person there for three years after. • He started attacking Panama because that one of the weakest parts of the whole empire. • When he came back to England he was a celebrity, being rich and famous.

  5. Globe Sailing • Drake was the second person to sail around the world after Magellan. • He was the first English sailor to sail in the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Indian Ocean. • Drake took his final trip, with John Hawkins, to the West Indies where they both died in 1596.

  6. Other Facts • Francis married twice in his life. • Drake’s voyages helped get a better picture of how the world looked. • We think that Francis Drake was important because he made a lot of English sailing advances such as, first English man to sail around the world.
