  2. Broadband Agenda UK Government’s Aim: • To ensure this country has the best Superfast Broadband in Europe by the end of this parliament (2015) The EU ‘Digital Agenda’ 2010-2020: • 100% coverage of > 30Mbps (2020)

  3. How that will happen • Private sector investment • BT Openreach, Virgin Media et al • Public Sector subsidy • BDUK £10.64m, matched locally by £15m

  4. What the Public Funding is for • This funding only applies to those areas not covered by current private telecoms investment plans • This funding is to upgrade 90% of the county to superfast broadband by 2015 • This funding is to ensure that everyone in East Sussex can get the basic level of internet service of 2mbps by 2015

What we have been up to • Submitted our Local Broadband Plan • Formally engaged with the market • to refine our data and understand their plans • To consult the market on our draft intervention areas • We have issued our Invitation to Tender (ITT) to the bidders (BT and Fujitsu) and are now in procurement stage

  7. What next? • Award a contract with the selected delivery partner & work with them to map out how best to roll out superfast broadband • Work with our delivery partner to install the infrastructure as quickly as possible

We need your help! • We know that broadband providers are looking at significant levels of demand • ‘Go e-sussex’ campaign launched in November to encourage businesses & residents to register their interest for faster broadband • Dedicated website with speed checker, news updates and frequently asked questions • We have printed materials available on request
