Main Menu Insurance Home Although weight loss is important for your health, often insurance does not pay for your bariatric surgery. And insurance almost never pays for dietary counseling. Bariatric Travel Program Blog If your insurance covers bariatric surgery, we take what your insurance pays. But, you will be responsible for co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance. Surgery We take most major insurance: BC/BS, Medicare, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, United Healthcare, Humana, etc. Understand that every insurance carrier has rigorous requirements for you to get approval for bariatric surgery. This may include but is not limited to 6 months or more of physician-supervised dieting, a 3-5 year history of being morbidly obese, extensive records, dietician assessment, monthly visits with the dietician, psychology clearance, medical testing, etc. Each company, and even each policy, has different requirements. Please have patience as we work with you and your insurance company to get approval. It’s not easy but it’s so worth it. You also have the option of avoiding all of the extra requirements to get bariatric surgery by going the self-pay route.
