  7. Oaks Online TA Interface • TA Interface Redesign • Simplified workflow reduces the need to navigate multiple pages to create/edit sessions and approve students. • No more tabs; all information is visible on one screen.

  8. Oaks Online TA Interface (cont) • Create / Edit Sessions • The list of available tests automatically displays upon logging in and can remain on screen while monitoring students • Simply select the tests for the session and click [Start Session] • What does this mean for test administration? • TAs no longer need to manage multiple test sessions across multiple days • Test sessions automatically expire upon TA logout • Create one test session for students testing during a specific time • Sessions cannot be resumed (A new Session ID is generated for each session) • Test opportunities still only expire at the end of the 45-calendar day period from which students first started the opportunity. Students may resume a paused test in any new test session that includes the applicable test subject and grade. • Example: TA creates a test session for students on Tuesday. To resume testing on Wednesday, the TA will create another test session for students to resume testing.

  9. Oaks Online TA Interface (cont) • Student Test Settings and Approvals • Approvals Preview (right) allows TAs to see students that need to be approved while monitoring test progress • The complete list of students awaiting approval will display on a pop-up screen

  10. Oaks Online TA Interface (cont) • Student Test Settings and Approvals • Adjust test settings for an individual student

  11. Oaks Online New Accessibility Features • Student Test Settings • Language • New for 2010-11: A student’s test language is configurable by test subject via TIDE (but can also be adjusted in TA Interface for that specific test opportunity) • Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, and Writing (all grades) can be administered in English-Spanish side-by-side • New for 2010-11: For Grade 3, Reading can be administered in Spanish only as a native-language assessment • Print on Request • New for 2010-11: Item printing is available as a restricted resource • Only DTSA or DSA-level users can pre-set this restricted resource (via TIDE) • All print requests (for items or reading passages) must still be approved by the TA in the TA Interface

  12. Oaks Online New Accessibility Features (cont) • Test Screen Color Options: The Student Interface can be set to present the test background with different options: • Color Overlay - text and background color combinations are pre-defined for a colored overlay over test content

  13. Oaks Online Dos and Don’ts Dos • Online testing is mandatory for all schools. Schools must offer OAKS Online to students. • Students may take OAKS Online Math, Reading, and Science tests up to three times per year and OAKS Online Social Sciences tests up to two times per year. Students in Grades 7 and HS may take Online Writing instead of Paper/Pencil Writing. • Individual students may use OAKS Braille or OAKS Extended if it is specified on a student’s IEP or 504 Plan. Determination to use OAKS Braille or OAKS Extended is content-specific.

  14. Oaks Online Dos and Don’ts (cont’d) Don’ts • OAKS Online users must not share their login information and passwords, even with other authorized users. • Do not use last year’s OAKS Secure Browser. Old secure browsers should be uninstalled before installing the new secure browsers. • Do not approve students to test until you are sure the students are taking the correct test at the right time. • Do not approve a student to take the ELPA unless his or her LEP flag is set to “yes.” • Do not let tests linger, they will expire after 45 calendar days.

  15. Oaks Online Promising Practices • Before the start of the testing window, the district exposes students to the online test environment using the practice test site. • The district uses the practice test to identify students who may need accommodations to fully access the online test. • The district restricts students who should not use the system from accessing the online test .

  16. Oaks Online In a Nutshell http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?=391 • Resources on the website • Updated OAKS Online User Guides will be available by Sept 14, 2010. • 2010-2011 OAKS Secure Browsers was made available on the OAKS portal July 28, 2010. • Enhancements to the Portal, Student Interface, Test Administrator Interface, Reports

  17. Oaks Online Acorns for Storage • How can the “restrict access” functions help districts and schools implement good testing practices? • How can districts and schools ensure that students are familiar with the online test system prior to testing? • How can the state, districts, and schools ensure that even more students have access to OAKS Online?
