  9. .....What to Expect Observations… • As Pitching goes, the team goes, Hitting follows close on its heels • Wide range of players and parental experience: club teams to recreation league • Coaches own what happens between the chalk lines – “benevolent dictatorship” • Booster Clubs provide administration, organization and community • Responsibility for individual performance shifts to player vs. safety net of volunteer coach • For serious ball player: Summer and Fall Seasons– often more important than Spring • Playing Time is not guaranteed, but gained through individual skill development and focus • Respected and valued but are viewed through a transitional lens by District and Coaches

  10. .....What to Expect Transition… • Same Age Group Play vs. “Classmen Play” • All teams are important, at times the culture defers to the Varsity Team • Everyone Plays vs. the Best 9 Play • The Field vs. The Bench – You must make the most of your opportunities • Communication Flow: Coach to Player, Player to Parent. Player to Coach • Talking/influencing Coaches RE: playing time? • Cut Sport • At times you have to step back and take an un-biased look • At JV and Varsity Level Winning is important

  11. .....What to Expect Getting the most… • Your Sonand You must take responsibility for your own baseball and athletic development • Follow and lean on a “training/practice process.” Game time is no time to fix problems • Relationships matter, past and future. Relationships offer choice and unexpected opportunity • Recognize and stay off of the emotional roller coaster • Be careful what you say and…… to whom. Maintain a positive attitude. • Pay your dues…..Play as many games as you can/want to • Play because it’s fun…. for the love of the game 1st. • Get involved in Boosters. The program needs good, thinking, caring people. • Fundraising (banners and program ads) • Snack Shack • Field Maintenance and Clean up • Pass it off to the next group better than you found it

  12. .....What to Expect Heritage High School Baseball Boosters (HHSBB).… • Monthly meetings on first Monday night of month • Times and locations on the website • Heritage athletic website is http://www.heritageagles.com/ • Organized and lead by four officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) • Volunteers organized by committees (Fundraising, Field Improvements, Hospitality, Concessions) • Focus is on off field activities…Let the coaches spend time coaching • Get involved!! Help move the program forward by leaving it in a better position than it was when you started at Heritage

  13. .....What to Expect Financial Commitment… • Parents and Booster club provide the majority of funds for program • Expect to pay for spring, summer and fall ball • Also fees for winter workouts ($100-$200) • Fees also help provide for improvements of field and facilities • Fund Raising available through King Soopers cards, Go Drive, Bronco’s games, Casino bus • Start accumulating your funds now!! • Extremely important to take care of your payments immediately and not be one of the families who we have to chase to collect • If you need time, talk to the treasurer to work out payment plans • Bottom line is that program does not work without everyone helping to support both financially and by volunteering your time!
