  1. Converting Between Units of Pressure • There are many different units of pressure used in chemistry. You must be able to use all of them and convert between them. Here they are: • atmospheres (symbol = atm) • millimeters of mercury (symbol = mm Hg) now called torrs • kilopascals (symbol = kPa) • Conversions: 1 atm = 760.0 mm Hg = 760.0 torr = 101.33 kPa You need to know: ‘STP’ means Standard Temperature and Pressure. At STP, one mole of gas occupies 22.4 L. Standard Temperature: 0°C/ 273K Standard Pressure: 1 atm/760 mmHg/760 Torr

  2. Converting Between Units of Pressure DIRECTIONS: For the following problems, show dimensional analysis. Include units in your answer and round to the nearest hundredth. • Convert 0.875 atm to mmHg • Convert 745.0 mmHg to atm. • Convert 2 atm to torrs.

  3. Gas Laws Problems DIRECTIONS: For the following problems, show the Given, Formula, and Substitution. Include units in your answer and round to the nearest hundredth. • If I have 5.6 liters of gas in a piston at a pressure of 1.5 atm and compress the gas until its volume is 4.8 L, what will the new pressure inside the piston be? • If I have 45 liters of helium in a balloon at 250 C and increase the temperature of the balloon to 550 C, what will the new volume of the balloon be? • A constant volume of oxygen is heated from 100C to 185C. The initial pressure is 4.1 atm. What is the final pressure?

  4. Converting Between Units of Pressure DIRECTIONS: For the following problems, show dimensional analysis. Include units in your answer and round to the nearest hundredth. 4. Convert 0.955 atm to kPa. 5. Convert 98.35 kPa to atm. 6. Convert 233.56kPa to atm.

  5. Converting Between Units of Pressure DIRECTIONS: For the following problems, show dimensional analysis. Include units in your answer and round to the nearest hundredth. 7. Convert 740.0 mmHg to kPa. 8. Convert 99.25 kPa to mmHg. 9. Convert 1600mmHg to kPa.

  6. Converting Between Units of Pressure DIRECTIONS: For the following problems, show dimensional analysis. Include units in your answer and round to the nearest hundredth. 10. A gas sample has a pressure of 800.0 mmHg. What is the pressure of this gas sample in atmospheres? 11. Using the gas sample mentioned above, what is its pressure in kilopascals? 12. A tank of oxygen is under a pressure of about 4.00 x 103kPa. Express this pressure in millimeters of mercury.

  7. Converting Between Units of Pressure DIRECTIONS: For the following problems, show dimensional analysis. Include units in your answer and round to the nearest hundredth. 13. Convert 1.69 atm to mmHg 14. Convert 0.3587 atm to kPa 15. Convert 820.1 mmHg to atm

  8. Converting Between Units of Pressure DIRECTIONS: For the following problems, show dimensional analysis. Include units in your answer and round to the nearest hundredth. 16. Convert 689 mm Hg to Pa.(HINT: How many Pascals in a kPa?) • Convert 725.0 torr to mmHg • Convert 32°C to Kelvin.
