Introduction • IACS Common Structural Rules require compliance with the Performance Standard for Protective Coatings of ballast tanks voids on double hulled bulk carriers contracted for construction on or after its date of adoption by IMO. (expected at MSC82, Dec 06). • In order to verify compliance with this standard the IACS members will undertake the verification requirements of section 7 of the standard and • Review of the coating technical file as required in section 3.4.1

  3. Verification Requirements • Verification in PSPC • 7.1 check that the technical data sheet and statement of compliance or type approval certificate comply with the standard. • 7.2 check the identification on representative containers is consistent with the coating identified in the technical data sheet and statement of compliance or type approval certificate • 7.3 check that the inspector is qualified in accordance with the qualification standard • 7.4 check the inspectors reports of surface preparation and the coating’s application indicate compliance with the manufacturers technical data sheet and statement of compliance or certificate. • 7.5 monitor implementation of the coating inspection requirements

  4. Verification by Class • 7.1 – Type Approval or Statement of Compliance issued in accordance with • Annex 1 • Equivalent standards • 5 Years experience ‘Good’ • 7.2 – Verification of coating supplied. • Simple verification process

  5. Verification by Class • 7.3 – Verification of inspectors qualifications • NACE Level II or FROSIO Level Red • Other qualifications as Audited by Class. • 7.4 – Verification of Inspection reports • Simple verification of shipyard inspector’s inspection reports

  6. Verification by Class • 7.5 – Monitor implementation of the coating inspection requirements. • This will be achieved through auditing of the shipyard inspection procedures.

  7. Work Plan EG/Coatings • Procedures for type approval of coatings • evaluating equivalent coating standards • Evaluating & accepting coating systems based on ‘5 years good experience’ • Procedures for auditing the training and qualification of coating inspectors/coating inspection companies. • Guidelines for auditing of shipyard inspection procedures.
