Grading Policy • 1= Limited or minimum progress toward achievement of standard • 2 = Progressing toward achievement of standard • 3 = Consistently and independently achieves standard • 4 = Mastery of skill Report cards will come home every 9 weeks. The first will be given out during conferences in October. Don’t forget to sign up!

  6. RTI RTI (Response to Intervention) gives teachers a chance to remediate small groups of students and also enrich students who already grasp concepts. Our school-wide program allows all students to receive intensive reading and math instruction two days a week.

  8. ELA Reading, Grammar, Spelling, and Writing • On-level Picture & Chapter books in small groups • Theme-based teaching (incorporating Science/Social Studies) • Transitioning from ‘learning to read to reading to learn’ • Comprehension • Vocabulary • Fluency • Listening Skills

  9. Media Center/AR Students may visit the Media Center when class schedules allow time. Students are encouraged to choose at least one on-level book. The students have the option of choosing a second book of their pleasure- below-, on-, or above-level. Common Core standards require students to read an equal amount of fiction and nonfiction titles. AR is a single component in our assessment of comprehension. Although it is a valuable tool, our main focus on comprehension will occur within our guided reading groups.

  12. Writing We will place a great deal of emphasis on learning the writing process and sentence/paragraph structure. • Pre-Writing • Drafting • Peer Editing • Revising • Publishing
