Session aims • To know and understand the technical demands of sport
Technical & tactical demands of sport • To perform well in sport, it is necessary to have a good understanding and ability of the technical and tactical demands required from the sport
Technical demands of sport • In all sports, the execution of skill is vital to the result of a performance or competition. It is important to understand the nature of skill, and the different types of skill that exist in sport.
Research, draw and report I Task 1 • You have been divided into 3 groups, with 3 A3 blank sheets of paper for each group. • Task2.1 Your group must read and research the topic given to you by your teacher. It will be either the information on Serial skills Continuous skills Discrete skills
Research, draw and report II • Task1.2 2 people from each group must go to another table and gather as much information about the other 2 aspects of skills and techniques that they did not research. They make notes about the information that is being given to them by the other class members. • Meanwhile, 1 person from each group must stay with their poster and explain to the learners that approach them what their poster means and answer any questions (10 minutes)
Research, draw and report III • Task 1.3. Students return to there group and must now complete 1 more poster about the other elements of the badminton technique that they researched (10 minutes)
Continuous skills • Continuous skills are those which have a clear beginning and end and can be easily separated from the overall performance, like the leg action in running and cycling
Discrete skills • Discrete skills have a clear beginning or end and can be easily separated from the overall performance, such as in the case of a basketball free throw or a diver performing a dive
Serial skills • Serial skills are composed of a number of discrete or continuous skills put together. These skills or techniques are put into a routine or pattern, such as an ice skating routine, a synchronised swimming routine or drop shot in tennis

Tactics and strategies defined • Tactics can be employed in order to make the strategy work. They can used by individuals or teams, for example to beat an opponent • Strategy a plan designed to meet a specific objective, either during a performance or as part of a longer term plan
