Kickoff Overview • What: First day of build when the game is released, and we start strategizing • MANDATORY – Extremely important that you attend! • Who: MVRT and other local teams • Your parents are encouraged to join us for the first part of Kickoff • When: Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 1-6pm • Where: Monta Vista Auditorium

  3. Kickoff Details • Watch the FIRST Kickoff in Manchester • Presentations including game analysis with guest speaker • Q&A and Rules Run through • Break and “Safari” – Member photos taken • Refreshments will be provided • Second part: Begin brainstorming, this is the first day of build!

Build Overview • Meeting Times • 3-6pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday • 3-5pm on Thursday • 3-7pm on Friday • 1-6pm on weekends/non-school days and holidays unless otherwise noted • 6 weeks – Last day of build is February 21st • Will have two design reviews • Mentors and parents are able to give us feedback • Aim to finish the robot mechanically in the first 4 weeks to leave two weeks for electrical and driver practice • Moves very quickly! • Everybody will be put into design groups with veteran leads that will focus on a specific part of the robot

Build Overview • Do NOT take things to and from the woodshop • All drawings must be approved before machined • Do NOT fool around/horseplay or play games on the computers – We will send you home • Do NOT use the wrong tool for the job/don't play with tools (aka using a hammer when not needed) – treat them with respect • T-nuts costs $0.75 • Remember to keep up with schoolwork – Don't let your grades drop! • Remember every job is important - There is no such thing as a "useless job"  • Communicate with others and be open to other ideas • Have FUN!

Operations Divisions • Media will meet during build to work on the animation, t-shirt designs, buttons, etc • Documentation will be managing the Website • Public Relations and Documentation will be focused on Chairman’s • Chairman’s is the highest honor a team can receive in FIRST, and we were awarded this last year through our outreach efforts and overall team professionalism • If you are interested in working on: video editing, photo editing, essay writing, poster board making, please contact Dahyoung and/or Jessica • Finance will be in charge of creating a Business Plan for the KPCB Entrepreneurship Award • Also be finishing up grants from first semester

  7. Snack Schedule • Since build runs until approximately 6:00pm everyday, it is nice to have snacks for everyone • All other members and officers will bring snacks – you are assigned one week out of build to bring in food • Try to bring water/healthy food for about 40 people

  10. Regionals • Regionals are the competitions after build • We attend two every year, this year they are: • Davis/Sacramento Regional : March 16th-17th (optional for members) • Silicon Valley Regional at SJSU: March 30nd-31st (mandatory) • Over 50 teams participate at each regional

Davis/Sacramento Regional • March 16th-17th, 2011 at UC Davis ARC Pavilion • You will miss one day of school • Cost estimate is $150 - $200 (subject to change) • Includes: Hotel, ground transportation, mentors, but NOT including food • Limited spots – we will be taking 32 students • First come, first serve basis

Davis/Sacramento Regional Sign-Ups • Permission slip stating that you are committed to attending with yours and your parent’s signatures + down payment of $75 is due by Saturday, January 21st at 6:00pm • If you are one of the first 40 people, this means you MUST attend and agree to paying to remaining cost • We will notify you if you are one of the first 40 • Final cost is based on the number of people going to Davis/Sacramento • Permission slip will be sent out via email tonight
