Basic information • Grasslands are characterized as lands dominated by grasses rather than large shrubs or trees • There are two main divisions of grasslands: tropical grasslands, called savannas, and temperate grasslands.
Biotic Factors • A Biotic Factor is something that is living, so... in the grasslands, grass would definitely be a Biotic Factor. • You also have to put the animals that live there into consideration, also don't forget the worms, in the soil, etc. Everything that lives there would be a Biotic Factor.
Animals of the Grasslands • Toads • Badgers • Beavers • Elks • Deer • Prairie Dogs • Coyotes • Snakes • Grey Wolves • Field mice • Hawks • Eagles • Red Fox • Shrew • Skinks
Human impact • The grasslands are being limited on their sizes • Many of the factories try to build on them because of their huge sizes and how far away they can be from people • The main factories that would want to build on them are Nuclear Power plants. • If they build there then if they have a nuclear meltdown, then it wouldn’t harm the people just the environment.
Soil types • Grasslands have deep soils that are very nutrient rich • Often grassland soil contains a large proportion of clay, which retains moisture better than sandy soils so that plants can grow better • In the grasslands, there are a variety of different plants because the soil is so rich. • It’s a very diverse environmental community • The most common plant there is grass!
