Types of Magma • Basaltic Magma • Andesitic Magma • Rhylic Magma
Basaltic Magma • The higher the temperature the greater the depth.
Rhyolitic Magma The temperature of rhyolitic magma is between 650 and 800oC.
Viscosity, Gas Content Basaltic magma has a low viscosity and a low gas content. Andesitic magma has a intermediate viscosity and a intermediate gas content. Rhyolitic magma has a high viscosity and a high gas content.
Eruption type Rhyolitic magma: Very Explosive
Composition • Basaltic Magma • High in Iron, Magnesium, Calcium. It is low in Potassium, and Sodium • The Silica content is about 50%. • Rhyolitic Magma • High in Potassium, and Sodium. It is low in Iron, Magnesium, Calcium . • The silica content in about 70%. • Andesitic Magma • Intermediate in Magnesium, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, and Sodium. • The Silica content is about 60%.
