  2. One Direction • The band was formed on the 2010 series of The X Factor • All members tried out as separate soloists • The judges decided to make them a group • They made it to 3rd finalist spot • Signed a Deal with Syco Records

  3. Albums • Released first album Up All Night • Came out in the US on March 13, 2012 • Released second album in the US in November 2012 • Titled Take Me Home

Louis Tomlinson • Born December 24, 1991 • Started singing at age 14 • Was in a band with friends called The Rogue • Interested in acting • Was an extra on Fat Friends, If I Had You, and Waterloo Road • Auditioned for X Factor twice • 2009 didn’t make it • 2010 made it through and was put in the band

  5. ZaynMalik • Born January 12, 1993 • Enjoys reading and English • Enjoyed drama and performing • Became more interested in music • Was going to try out for The X Factor when he was 15, became too scared • Tried out when he was 17, he made it through and was put in the band

Liam Payne • Born August 29, 1993 • Loves running • Was on the reserve list for 2012 Olympics • He got bored with running, so he tried music • X Factor Experience • Tried out when he was 14 made it through a couple of rounds, was sent home • Tried out again when he was 16 he made it through and was put in the band

  7. Niall Horan • Born September 13, 1993 • Only Irish member • Music • Musical talent began around age 5 • At age 12 began playing the guitar • Began performing in shows • Won local competitions • Tried out for X Factor 2010 • Made it through and was put into the band

  8. Harry Styles • Born February 1, 1994 • Performed in school plays • Star of Barney, a play about a church mouse • Was in a band with friends • Called White Eskimo • Was the lead singer • Tried out for X factor 2010 • Made it through, was put into the band

  11. Little Things • The third song on their album Take Me Home • Written by: Ed Sheeran and Fiona Bevan • They wrote it when they were 17 • Lost it, but eventually found it • Topped UK charts in November 2012 • Running time of 3:40

  12. Listening Guide:Little Things 0:00 Introduction It’s in quadruple simple meter, major mode. An acoustic guitar plays the 8 measure intro. It’s soft and conjunct 0:17 First Verse Zayn sings the first verse. Begins with a pick up note at the end of the intro Lines 1, 2, 4 rhyme 0:34 Second Verse Liam sings the second verse, which is slightly different from the first. Only lines 1 and 2 rhyme 0:52 Chorus The main melody of the chorus is sung by Zayn, while the other members of the band harmonize. The chorus is steady and smooth like the rest of the song. 1:18 Third Verse Louis sings this verse. His voice sounds a little higher than the others. This verse is the same as verse 1. 1:36 Fourth Verse Harry sings this verse. It’s the same as verse 2, however none of the lines rhyme 1:53 Chorus In this chorus, Harry sings the main melody, while Niall harmonizes with him 2:16 Bridge Niall sings the bridge by himself, with guitar accompaniment. Lines 1, 3, 4 end with you and line 2, ends with to. 2:51 Chorus The chorus is sung twice to end the song. The first time, Harry sings it by himself and it’s slightly varied. It’s in past tense.   13. Moments • On the deluxe version of Up All Night • Written by: Ed Sheeran and Si Hulbert • Sheeran heard that One Direction needed another song for their album • Gave Harry a CD with a bunch of songs on it and said they could use whatever one they wanted • Running time of 4:22
