GROUP WORK – COUNTRY REPORT(INDIA, BANGLADESH, SRI LANKA, NEPAL AND MALYSIA) • Union Policy on Labour Education of HMS (India), MTUC (Malaysia), CWC (Sri Lanka), GEFONT (Nepal), AND BJSD (Bangladesh). For example : BJSD’s policy labour education consists of :- • Bring all the members and the general workers under the education programmes • Consider education as a strategy of organizing and mobilization • Develop future leadership through proper education and training,\ • Low cost education programme, such as study circle, discussion circle etc.

Type of Activities Type of education programs Basic, Intermediate & Advance TU Training, such as Union Management, Leadership, Handling Grievance, CA Bargaining & OSH Workshop for Younger Workers Workshop on Gender Awareness Workshop on Child Labour & HIV Aids Workshop on Organizing Informal Workers Train the Trainers Program Industrial Court Practitioners’ Training (MTUC) International Training

Challenges & Needs • Challenges & Needs • Resources – educators, funding & infrastructure • To avoid duplication – networking of education programs between TUC and individual unions • Monitoring & Follow-up of education programs • Lack of seriousness – leaders, trainers & participants • Selection of participants – gender/youth

Use of Information Technology (IT) India, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Langka & Bangladesh • Big and resourceful TUC and unions are using IT\(computer) for the day-to-day activities including storing membership record (database)and administrative. • IT can also be used in other areas such as updating development of CA negotiations (as newsletter) via website • IT also can be used in promoting workers’ education and conducting researches on other related TU issues (via internet) • IT can be used to improve communication (via emails) between TUC and individual unions.
