  3. How to use the chart. Select the adjective you need to use. Find the gender of the noun following the adjective. Find the case (Nom., Acc., Dat.) for the noun. Find the preceding word (der, ein, mein, etc. ) Look at the chart in the following slide. The main chart are the four columns surrounded by the black boarder or in yellow. If an answer falls on a blank space your answer reverts to the main chart. Line up all three items and select the appropriate ending.

  7. Comparatives add the same endings as the adjectives. Simple add on to the end of the comparative. • Comparatives 1. Adjectives with two syllabus add – er schnell – schneller 2. Adjectives with one syllabus add – er and umlauts. alt – älter, jung – jünger 3. Irregular adjectives have no rules gern – lieber, gut - besser

Superlatives add the adjective ending after the superlative endings have been added. • Most superlatives are made by adding – st with the endings of the adjectives. • If the adjective ends in – d, - t, in an – s sound or in vowels then we add – est. • Irregular forms gern – liebst-, gut – best-, viel – mehr-

  9. Adjective Verbs • Take any verb and add a – d. essend – eating • Then add the adjective endings. lessend – en Junge – reading boy

Exeptions • Names of Cities always use – er endings. • Adjectives like super, klasse, spitze, rosa, lila, beige, orange never have an ending. • Words like teuer, dunkel have a special comparative and superlative. Teuer changes to teurer and dunkel changes to dunkler. Any adjective with these type of endings will have that change.
