  1. Sturgeon Tracking Drone • Objective • Convert a model airplane to a UAV trainer • Use the UAV trainer to simulate tracking of sturgeon

Methodology • Selected easy to build and fly model airframe for quick turnaround time. • While building, training was done through simulation. • Modifications made to model airframe to fit necessary hardware. • Hardware in the loop simulations to simulate hardware before flight, and modify software parameters. • Actual autonomous flight with radio beacon.

  3. Results & What’s Next • Conclusively showed it was possible to track sturgeon through use of a drone. • Need to use the standard sturgeon tracking radio. However, it’s 5 lbs. • Construction and testing of new drone underway with much larger wingspan.
