Introduction. Defeatism is something that many people, including Christians, are suffering from today. The definition of “defeatism” is to “accept defeat as inevitable”. What we think about any situation may be the very outcome of the same (Prov. 23:7; Num. 13:30-31).

  1. Introduction • Defeatism is something that many people, including Christians, are suffering from today • The definition of “defeatism” is to “accept defeat as inevitable” • What we think about any situation may be the very outcome of the same (Prov. 23:7; Num. 13:30-31)

  2. Bible Examples Of Defeatism • THE TEN SPIES (Numbers 13:26-31) - Talked themselves out of something before trying -How many of us are like Caleb and Joshua with an optimistic outlook in any given situation?

  3. Bible Examples Of Defeatism • THE ONE TALENT MAN (Mt. 25:18, 24f) - We all have equal opportunity to use our talents to God’s glory -How many of us let our fears lead us into burying our talents?

  4. Bible Examples Of Defeatism • JOHN MARK (Acts 13:5, 13; 15:37-38) - How many times have we failed to involve ourselves in the work of God? -Have you ever chose to do something else in the place of your service to God?

  5. Bible Examples Of Overcoming Defeatism • CALEB & JOSHUA (Num. 14:6-10, 24) - Because of determination and a trust in God Joshua and Caleb stood together as conquerors -How many of us are willing to stand strong when the majority are giving up around us?

  6. Bible Examples Of Overcoming Defeatism • ABRAHAM (Rom. 4:19-22) - When God makes a promise to us, do we live like we are going to receive the blessings of that promise? -Even when what God has called us to do seems impossible, do we enter into His work?

  7. Bible Examples Of Overcoming Defeatism • APOSTLES (Acts 1:8; 4:19, 20; 5:29) - The apostles took their ministry to the Lord seriously? What about us? (Col. 1:23) -PAUL, for example, was faithful to his calling from the Lord. (I Cor. 9:16, 23-27; II Tim. 1:12; Phil. 4:13)

  8. Bible Examples Of Overcoming Defeatism • EARLY CHURCH (Acts 11:29-30) - We need to have trust and determination in our giving and sharing (II Cor. 8:1-9) -Due to our rich blessings, we have the privilege and obligation to be a blessing to others

  9. The Effects Of Defeatism • ISRAEL (Num. 14:32-34) - Are we going to give up the rest promised to us on the basis of our unbelief (Heb. 4:1-2, 6-11) -How many of us murmur and complain when we are called to obey the Lord? How many of us have a fear that holds us back from our service to Him?

  10. The Effects Of Defeatism • ONE TALENT MAN (Matt 25:28, 30) - Because of poor stewardship, this man lost everything and was cast into outer darkness -When you count your blessings and talents, are you using them or abusing them?

  11. The Effects Of Defeatism • JOHN MARK (Acts 15:37-38) - Will you be a servant to others in the kingdom as a diligent worker? -John Mark had destroyed his reputation as a faithful servant but was able later to redeem himself and become active again (II Tim. 4:11)

  12. How Can I Know If I Have Defeatism? • SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK... - Do you have unnecessary fear and a lack of diligence in God’s work? YESorNO -Do you set consistent goals for yourself, planning to be victorious over all obstacles? YESorNO

  13. How Can I Know If I Have Defeatism? • SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK... - Do you hinder the spread of truth with your attitudes and actions? YESorNO -Do you see yourself standing before the throne of God as victorious? YESorNO

  14. APPLICATION • We Are Not Destined For Defeat - We are able to overwhelmingly conquer in Christ (Rom. 8:37) - We are guaranteed a victory in Him (I Cor. 15:57) - If you are suffering from “Defeatism” put it away today and begin serving the Lord (Jn. 16:33; II Cor. 2:14; Rev. 3:21)
