  1. Visual checking of Muon Reconstruction using Atlantis Gary Taylor (UCSC) 1/4/2003 Atlantis • General purpose interactive event display program • Concentrate here on its application to muon track reconstruction • MDT, RPC, TGC, CSC Digits • Moore tracks • Matching muon tracks to inner detector tracks • Future plans • Conclusions • Short demonstration Outline

  2. 130 GeV Higgs decaying to 4 muons (all reconstructed by Moore) RPC TGC MDT unassociated MDT associated

  3. 1 TeV Pt Muon reconstucted in the barrel region Moore tracks not yet followed in B field RPC MDT associated MDT unassociated

  4. 1 TeV Pt Muon reconstucted in the endcap region MDT TGC space points MDT hits not long enough TGC strips

  5. 1 TeV Pt muon reconstructed with 2.5GeV Pt – Why? MDT hits on Moore track MDT hits on Moore track 1 TeV m CSC hits on Moore track Unused MDT hits near true track

  6. 1 TeV Pt muon not reconstructed – Why? MDT hits too short ?

  7. 130 GeV Higgs decaying to 4 muons (only 2 reconstructed by Moore) 2 muons (Pt = 24 and 35 GeV)

  8. Some minor bugs found in the geometry 7/BIL/-1/5/MDT/2/3/13

  9. Comparison of muon and inner detector track fits f p = 28 GeV Dp = 5 GeV Df = 1.5 deg Dh = 0.02 muon tracks Inner detector tracks p = 25 GeV Dp = 4 GeV Df = 1 deg Dh = 0.01 V-Plot allows comparison of f, h and pt h

  10. Near term future plans (muon data) • follow Moore tracks in B field • follow true (kine) muon tracks in B field • add true (kine) track-to-hit association • add data from CSC’s clusters • change to use compact identifiers

  11. Conclusions • many aspects of muon reconstruction may be checked using Atlantis • remaining muon data available soon (when in Athena) • followed by new public release • users and their feedback/requests are very welcome • to learn more - sign up for Atlantis tutorial on Friday 16th May • (next software week) Special thanks to • Hans Drevermann (Ideas and advice) • Jon Couchman (Access to data from Athena –JiveXML)

  12. Explanation of the fh and V-Plot projections r = rMax V-Plot • Draw each space point twice at • F,h+k*(r-rMax) • and • F,h-k*(r-rMax) • 3D information • For tracks can judge • f • h • pt (slope of V arms) • charge ( L -ve • V +ve) f low p, -ve r = 2 cm h Distorted V’s track not from IP high p, +ve
