  3. Swine Vital Signs • Temperature: 102-103.6 avg. 102.6 • Taken rectally • Pulse Rate: 60-80 beats per minute • Heart must be felt directly over the chest • No artery or vein can be felt • Respiration rate: 8-13 breaths per minute • Count chest movements

  4. Pork Quality Assurance Program • Emphases good management • Promotes herd health programs • Reduce drug residue in marketed swine

  5. Sanitation Program • High-pressure wash to remove dirt and manure from the hog house • Scrubbed with soapy water • Use of disinfecting produce • Hot lye solution, iodine • Sodium carbonate, cresol • Pens for young pigs should receive the most attention • Restrict visitor entry
