2. M2 and D1 Tips – Deadline 28.03.2014 • In order to achieve M2 and D1, you will need to write a report review and evaluate how useful the different strategies can be when attempting to overcome various barriers to communication. • So you will essentially be reviewing the information which you have gathered in your P3 and P4 task and evaluating the effectiveness of those strategies using the examples which you have chosen.

M2 and D1 Tips • In a report review and evaluate how useful the strategies listed below can be used to overcome the barriers within your placement. • Staff training, • Assessment of needs using preferred methods of communication, • Promoting rights, • Confidentiality, • Assertiveness, • Defusing aggression and staying confident, • Building relationships and appropriate verbal and non verbal communication, • Appropriate environment, • Meeting self esteem needs and maintaining an appropriate attitude.

4. Key tips/ question for M2 • You will need to identify 5 strategies which the practitioners use to maintain effective communication and overcome barriers within your placement. • What do they in order to maintain good relationships with service users and prevent/ overcome difficulties in communication ?

5. Group task • Get into small groups within the class with people who are in similar placement than yours…. • Think of the age group of the clients, difficulties and settings… • Now discuss creating a mind map each the following questions: • What do the practitioner do in order to maintain a good relationship with service users and prevent/overcome difficulties in communication ? • What are the strengths and weaknesses of the strategies they use ? (2 of each)

6. D1 tips • You will need to evaluate so make a judgement with regards to the effectiveness of the strategies you have discussed in M2 and justify by explaining why you have come to this conclusion.

7. Structure • Introduce the task as always, • Bullet point/number each of the strategies and underline the subheading x 5 – do the following structure twice. • One strength of ………… because ……. (link with placement) • One weakness of …….. because ……… (link with placement) • Conclusion • In summary/in conclusion …… the use of the strategies mentioned in the report when …….
