Definitions Classroom Teacher – “professional employe or temporary employe who provides direct instruction to students related to a specific subject or grade level” Principal – “a building principal, an assistant principal, a vice principal or a director of vocational education” Nonteaching Professional Employee – “an educational specialist or professional employe or temporary professional employe who provides services other than classroom instruction” Source: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/WU01/LI/LI/US/HTM/2012/0/0082..HTM

Teaching vs. Nonteaching Professionals To be considered a teaching professional, you must be able to answer yes to the following two questions: 1) Are you working under your instructional certification? 2) Do you provide direct instruction to students? (i.e. Do you plan, teach, & assess the instruction?) If your answer yes to #1, but no to #2, you are a nonteaching professional.

  7. Licensed Professionals • Not Under the Authority of PDE • Use of Nonteaching Instrument Will Be a Local Decision for the Following: • Occupational Therapist • Physical Therapist • Social Workers • Behavior Specialists
