Letters & Postcards People use to send letters to others nowadays they do it only if the message is very important . For instance :Statement of bank account Christmas, Easter, Birthday, Wedding invitation, ... It´s one of the most expensive way of communication and it alsotakes in average about 2-3 days to delivery the message .
Phone It is fact that almost everyone has a cell-phone or home line phone today, so there is no need to buy or learn another stuff. It is the most preferred way of communication between grandparents and their grand-children, right behind a personal contact .
SMS They are short messageslimited by it´slength to something about 150 letters , longer SMS is divided onto smaller and then sent . This service as time goes on is less and less used, because nobody likes to write a text on dumb phone and if they are using smart phone then it is more comfortable to use instant cheaper messaging, it is almost free.
E-mail It´s faster, cheaper but not as much personal alternative compare to sending letters . You have to have an e-mail account and network connection .
At the heart of Twitter are short messages (images) called "tweets". Strike up conversations with people you know and people you’d like to know. • Subscribing to someone’s stream of Tweets is called “following”. A private message is a private Tweet between two people who follow each other.
MYSPACE Users of this service are able to create blogs, upload videos and photos, and design profiles to showcase their interests and talents. Myspace has provided a place for users to meet new friends and keep in touch with people across the world. The site has received backlash from critics who believe that some users use the service to prey on other users.
To combat this issue, Myspace has developed privacy settings to allow users to specify who they would like to view their profile and personal information.
Facebook Many people describe Facebook as a “social network” although Facebook uses the term “social utility," saying it's more useful and functional than just a connection tool. Whichever definition you prefer, the site offers to users a variety of ways to publicly or privately shared data about their life, and to find friends, classmates and others who might be interested in them.
You can post public thoughts on others' pages, send them private emails or chats, search for people from your past or connect with people with the same interests as you.
Skype Free voice over internet protocol (VOIP) service that allows users to communicate via an internet connection by combining voice, video, and instant messaging. Usually it is the only one of the new ways of the communication which is used by grandparents.
ICQ An easy-to-use online instant messaging program Prounounced as separate letters, so that it sounds like "I-Seek-You," ICQ is similar to America OnLine's popular Buddy List and Instant Messenger programs. • It is used as a conferencing tool by individuals on the Net to chat, e-mail, perform file transfers, play computer games, and more.
Conclusion Well , as we can see there is a lot of ways of communication across generations.Older people prefer traditional ways because they are familiar with them and they simply don´t want to learn something new, only Skype as a tool that can allow both sides to see and hear each other (for free) is used by them but not as often as others .
Young people, in the other hand useto use mostly new ways of communication. They all are connected and sharing information on social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google + etc. From traditional ways of communication they use between each other only phones, and for communication with teachers they use e-mail.
