Establishment and Editors • Established as the Journal of the Australian Medical Society on Alcohol and other Drugs in 1981. • An integral part of the society. • Founding Editor: Dr L Drew from 1981-1984. • Prof B. John Saunders: Editor-in-Chief 1985-2008. • Prof Robin Room: Editor-in-Chief 2009-present.

Content • During the first four years of its publication, the Review was simply a place where non-reviewed conference proceedings were published. • 1985: publication of original papers and critical review articles, and a panel of independent reviewers was developed. • 1986 publication of the Review increased to four times a year, and was expanded to 360 pages.

  4. Funding • 1999: the Journal was granted funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing • Aims: • to assist with the dissemination of Australian research and review of practices in the drug and alcohol field • informing Australian drug and alcohol workers about current international research and practices • contributing to the dissemination of best practice approaches throughout Australia

  5. Today • In 2008 the Review moved to online submission through Manuscript Central • Available online to APSAD members. • Publishers Wiley Blackwell. • Contributors to the Review examine and report on alcohol and drug abuse from a wide range of clinical, biomedical, psychological and sociological standpoints.
