HISTORY OF INDIA • India is a land of ancient civilization. Indian history begins with the birth of the Indus valley civilizations and the coming of the Aryans. These two phases are described as the Vedic period, Hinduism was brought up in this period. • The 5th century saw the combination of India under Ashoka who had converted to Buddhism and Buddhism spreaded in many parts of asia . 8th century was when Islam came to India for the first time and by 11th century established itself and India as a political force. Resulted into the formation of the Delhi Sultanate which was succeeded by the Mughal Empire. • In the 17th century Europeans came to India.In the contest for supremacy the English emerged victors, Queen Victoria was crowned the empress of India making the empire complete . Though India struggled for their independence which they received in 1947.
CULTURE AND TRADITION OF INDIA Religions: .HINDUISM is the dominant religion of India that emphasizes dharma wit its resulting ritual & ascetic practices. .Buddhism is the religion attributed to the teachings of the Buddha (Idols). .SIKHISM is a monotheistic religion founded in Punjab by Guru Nanak .JAINISM is an ancient Hindu religion which has its own scriptures and beliefs and was founded by JinaVardhamana Languages: India is a country of widely spoken languages like: .Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Kannada , Telugu, Tamil , Sanskrit ,Urdu , Gujarati , Sindhi , Hindustani , Maithili. Dances: Indian dances are filled with expressions and joy like: . Mohiniyattam is the dance of the enchantress .Kathak is a dance that enquires Bhakti movement
FOOD IN INDIA Indian cuisine has a taste of its own spices, recipes like: Palak paneer is a vegetarian dish apart of the punjabi cuisine and consists of spinach , cottage cheese and curry. Rogan josh is a staple of Kashmiri cuisine : It consists of braised lamb chunks cooked with a gravy based on browned onions or shallots, yogurt, garlic, ginger and aromatic spices. Rasgulla is a popular cheese based, syrupy sweet dish made from balls of Chena (Indian cottage cheese) and semolina dough cooked in sugar syrup. Pav Bhaji It is a fast food dish native to Maharashtrian and is popular in most metropolis areas in India, is consist of bhaji (a potato based curry) and the pav, garnished with coriander, chopped onions and butter.
CLOTHING IN INDIA Salwar Kameez is a traditional outfit originating in the Indian subcontinent. It is a generic term used to describe different styles of dress. The shalwar kameez can be worn by both men and women, but styles differ by gender. The shalwar and the kameez are two garments which are combined to form the shalwar kameez. It is the national dress of Pakistan, and commonly worn throughout the Indian subcontinent. Lehenga or Gharara is a form of full ankle-length skirt worn by women from the Indian subcontinent which is long, embroidered and pleated. It is worn as the bottom portion of a Gagra choli or LangaVoni. It is secured at the waist and leaves the lower back and midriff bare Saree is a female garment from the Indian subcontinent that consists a long dubata (scarf) attached to the shalwar from the bottom and then being wrapped around the arm as a style . It is occasionally worn on special events like weddings, celebrations or diners.
WEDDINGS IN INDIA • Weddings in India vary regionally, the religion and per personal preferences of the bride and groom. They are festive occasions in India, and in most cases celebrated with extensive decorations, colors, music, dance, costumes and rituals that depend on the religion. • While there are many festival-related rituals in Hinduism, vivaha (wedding) is the most huge personal ritual an adult Hindu undertakes in his or her life on Hindu weddings. • Sikhs get married through a ceremony called Anand Karaj, a ritual started by the third leader of Sikhism, Guru Amar Das. The couple walk around the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib four times. • Indian Muslims celebrate a traditional Islamic wedding.
