  4. Common Themes • How can vegetarianism/animal compassion ideology coexist in a culture that won’t even recognize the rights of its lowest class of humans • Comparison with holocaust, good or bad? • Shock value as a tactic • Animals place in society

  5. Holocaust • Some argue that the malice of the holocaust is irreconcilable with the beneficial intentions of the meat industry • Some argue that the mentality behind the holocaust is identical to the approach society takes towards slaughter • Intentionally controversial – has shock value

  6. Shock Value • Earthlings was intended to abruptly awaken people and shock them into realization • PETA pulling insane stunts only makes the world see them as crazy

  7. Vegetarianism • Vegetarianism is common in Indian culture yet the same culture believes in a caste system, refusing to respect all humans as equal • Motives of a vegetarian

  8. Animals place in society • Is the life of an animal equal to that of a human?

  9. Discussion • Practice empathy, try to understand both sides of the argument • Try to avoid polerization
