  7. PERSONAL DEFECTS OR IMPAIRMENTS • Lack of Knowledge • Improper Job Attitude • Physical Impairment

  8. DOMINO EFFECT OF ACCIDENTS • Background can lead to work defect • Defects of person can cause unsafe acts and conditions • Unsafe acts and conditions cause accidents • An accident is an unplanned event • An injury may be result of an accident

  9. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT • Does not eliminate accidents • Can prevent or lessen injury if accident does occur • Should ALWAYS be used

  10. Watch others around you: • Be sure you know where everyone of your classmates are when working outside. • Do not swing an axe, a hoe, or any other tool until you know that everyone is out of your line of cut.

  11. Pay attention: • Know exactly what you are cutting or moving. • Have your full attention on your job at hand at all times.

  12. The CHOP SAW and DRILL PRESS: • Chop saw is a lot like a jealous girl friend. • WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES. • Have shirt tucked in. • No jewelry. • Don’t leave until blade or bit stop turning.

  13. The CHOP SAW & DRILL PRESS: • Unplug when finished. • Stay out of yellow box when someone else is working. • PAY ATTENTION. • If either stop working properly report it to the teacher immediately. • Must have one on one training with instructor before using.

  14. Outdoor power tools: • MUST wear safety goggles. • All other students must stay away from students using these tools. • Report any problems to instructor immediately. • Must PAY ATTENTION. • Must put tools back in shed when finished.

  15. The Tractors: Who can drive? • For now, all students who drive must: • Be a second year student in Horticulture or Forestry. • Students must be at least 16 years of age. • Students must be able to demonstrate to Mr. Kennedy how to operate the tractors. • As we get into the semester, I may begin showing other students how to use them.

  16. The Tractors: • The tractor is a TOOL, NOT A TOY, and will only be used when it is needed. • There will only be one person on the tractor at a time. That person is the driver. • No students will be pulled on any trailers, or any other devices.

  17. The Tractor: • While bush hogging no other students will be anywhere in site of the tractor. • Students who have permission to drive the tractor will be observed very closely. If I see you mistreat the tractor, playing on the tractor, racing the tractors, horse playing on the tractor etc. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE THE TRACTOR AGAIN. This rule also applies for the Honda riding mower.

  18. The Tractor: • The tractor is a tool that we have to make our learning experience easier. It is not required for anything we do. I do not have a problem with banning every student from driving it if necessary. DON”T TRY ME WITH THE TRACTOR.

  19. The TRACTOR: • Only one tractor will be out at the time unless Mr. Kennedy is operating one of them. • Tractor rules are in stone, they WILL not be changed. If anyone argues these rules, once again, we don’t have to use them at all.
