Overall Considerations • Two boards (one for HV, one for LV) • Optical Isolation • Some high power traces on comm board (motors) • High voltage trace spacing on power board • Connector issues to motors, coil • Low inductance to coilgun • Thermal management and thermal pad soldering • Availability of headers and extra traces for ICD • Backup solder points for hard to solder parts Team 6: Defender

  8. Microcontroller Considerations • Very few, microcontroller connections are very simple. • Standard bypass capacitors from data sheet. • Follow design guidelines for USB bus and I2C bus. Team 6: Defender

  9. Low Voltage Power Supply • 3.3V regulator thermal management • Switching 12V power rail • Connector to high power board • Separate 12V grounds Team 6: Defender

  10. High Voltage Power Supply • Separate AC transformer with connector. • Low amperage but high rms voltage • Low inductance • Protection mechanisms for capacitor bank • Very wide traces Team 6: Defender

  11. Discharge Circuit • IGBT offboard, screw mount • Low inductance, ESR is critical • Pulse rating for power only • Avoiding reflection and EMI Team 6: Defender
