Government Initiatives • Rural Drinking Water Safety Initiative • Issues identified in rural communities • The Initiative was announced in 2008 • Designed to deal with only rural areas • $20 million allocated over a three year period Water Resources Management Division Department of Environment & Conservation
Accomplishments of RDWSI • Completion of: • Sustainable Options for the Management of Drinking Water Quality in Small Water Systems Report • Studies underway: • PWDUs • Operation and maintenance of water systems Water Resources Management Division Department of Environment & Conservation
Accomplishments of RDWSI • 7 potable water dispensing units (PWDUs) currently in operation • Received 47 applications for PWDUs • Design completed for 26 PWDUs to be installed in Spring 2010 Water Resources Management Division Department of Environment & Conservation
