  2. TO ADD AN IMAGE: • Copy the image and hit paste, or • Save image and go to INSERT > PICTURE • Make sure images are not blurry and are appropriate • Stretch images to fill slide • If you need to trim the image, go to PICTURE TOOLS > CROP

  3. ANIMATING IMAGES: • To add life to your images, you can have them animated and overlapping • Select the image • Click on ANIMATIONS > CUSTOM ANIMATION • Select the desired movement from “Add Effect” on the box that pops up • Make sure to change “Start” from “On Mouse Click” to “After Previous” • Use “Speed” to change speed of the effect • Click on the drop-down arrow by your animation and select timing. Put in a delay, or else your animation will start at the slide change.

TRANSITION TIPS: • Under ANIMATIONS, make sure “On Mouse Click” is not checked and “Automatically After:” is checked and set to “00:15” • Transitions should be fast • Don’t add fancy slide transitions—the slides move so fast that no one will notice. Plus, a transition could throw off your timing

  5. USING TEXT: • Remember to avoid text unless a primary source • Go to INSERT > TEXT BOX to write • For poems or song lyrics, you can time when lines appear or have certain words change color using the ANIMATIONS feature

  6. TO ADD AUDIO: • Save the audio file to the same flash drive as your project; if you don’t, you will be unable to access the file during presentation • Go to INSERT > SOUND > SOUND FROM FILE • Select correct sound file • The sound link will look like this: • Click “Hide During Show” under SOUND TOOLS to hide this speaker picture • Under SOUND TOOLS, make sure “Play Sound:” is set to “Automatically” or “Play Across Slides” if you want it for multiple slides

TO ADD VIDEO: • Save the video file to the same flash drive as your project; if you don’t, you will be unable to access the file during presentation • Go to INSERT > MOVIE > MOVIE FROM FILE • Select correct movie file • Expand film box to fit slide • Under MOVIE TOOLS, make sure “Play Movie:” is set to “Automatically” • Under MOVIE TOOLS, make sure “Slide Show Volume” is raised to full

  8. TO GET AUDIO AND VIDEO FROM NET: • Find the source you want and copy web address • Go to keepvid.com • Paste in web address to KeepVid • In the box that pops up, choose the highest resolution MP4 you can and file destination • Note: KeepVid does not work for all websites

  9. EDITING AUDIO: • Need to trim a sound clip? • Download Audacity sound editor (free at audacity.sourceforge.net/)—make sure you download the right version (PC, Mac, or Linux) • Open the song in Audacity and trim where desired.

  11. NO POWERPOINT AT HOME?: • Download the Apache Open Office Suite from openoffice.org (free) • Open Impress • Create a presentation and save as a .ppt or .pptx file
